SLEEPING UNDER THE STARS – GEODESIC DOME

One of Quebec’s numerous hidden gems is Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux (French for Adventure Park Cap Jaseux). This adventure park is located in Saint-Fulgence, Quebec, approximately five hours from Montreal, and two and a half hours from Quebec City. With its wide range of activities, the fullness of the surrounding nature, and unusual accommodation, it’s easy to see why Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux became a renowned destination for adventure tourism and ecotourism in Quebec and why we decided to make the trip!

When we decided to pay a visit to Cap Jaseux, we were a little disappointed in the weather. It was a few weeks before the massive heat wave we’re currently experiencing, and temperatures were relatively low while precipitation was unnecessarily high. However, that didn’t stop us from making a trip of it!

We got the keys to our accommodation around 4 in the afternoon, hopped into our truck and made our way up the road to our destination. We parked the car in the designated area and proceeded to unload. Due to the weather, we really wanted to make the most out of our trip so when we arrived at our destination, a cart was at our disposal to aid us to carry our bags along the rocky path into our lodging. I, obviously wanting to get the most out of what Cap Jaseux had to offer, decided it was necessary to put an easily transportable cooler in to said cart. On any other given day, I would’ve taken the cooler by hand and brought it to our destination, but that day I decided that if the weather was going to try and dampen our mood, I was going to show it who’s boss. Off into the cart the cooler went (carrying all our food for our overnight stay). Now, if you’ve read our blogs up until this point, you may or may not already know that Jenna and I are a walking disaster, so naturally, there was a mishap waiting around the corner. As I went to give the cart its first push, the wheels slid across a wet patch of unstable pathway, flipped onto its side into the nearby shrubbery which lined the pathway all while opening the lid and sending all our food flying out of the cooler. I yelled out the biggest NO I’ve ever clamored in my life and all Jenna could do was look back at me, laugh and curse herself out for not having a camera on me 24/7. We truly are the definition of disasters, but together, we somehow make it work!

Finally, after almost spoiling our only source of food for the night, we made it to our humble abode! A lovely Glass Dome overlooking the magnificent Fjord du Saguenay. This 20 foot in diameter half-sphere is a lovely little spot to get away with a significant other for the night. The privacy of being surrounded by the calming forest, the low waves crashing gently into the rocks at the shoreline and the calming sound of chirping birds make for a splendid stay at the dome. If weather permits, you can also have yourself a barbeque on the deck on which the dome is perched up on all while overlooking the calming river.

However, as beautiful as it was, Jenna and I were bound to find a way to bring the enjoyment level from 100 to 99. As a reader, I’m actually jealous of you because you’ll read this blog, learn from our mistakes and then probably have a more enjoyable time. If you do make the trip and are planning to stay in one of the many accommodations, make sure to do one of two things. Ask reception for bed sheets upon your reservation or bring your own! I cannot stress that enough, as Jenna and I had to sleep inside each other’s skin to stay warm as there are no heating/cooling devices inside the dome.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay and I would definitely do it again. There’s nothing like disconnecting from the big city lights and heading out into the country, driving on back roads and falling asleep under the starry sky. Parc Jaseux has something for all ages, so bring your kids, your wives, your girlfriends or your parents, as there’s something to do for everyone.
