The Colombo Hotel by Ceilao Villas is a cleverly hidden escape in the heart of the concrete jungle that is Colombo, Sri Lanka.
This sleek looking hotel is unique in so many ways. Dowsed in pure white, the accentuated curvature of the walls, cozy nooks dressed in vibrant colored furniture and the cathedral ceilings give this place an unmatched contemporary look reminiscent of the retro roots in which it came from.
With six rooms to choose from, all with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning, you can comfortably enjoy your stay at The Colombo Hotel. Now, we don’t encourage you to sit in your rooms all day as there are 2 beautiful pools for you to enjoy! Go for a morning swim in their large garden swimming pool or feel like the ultimate chill vacationer with the rooftop plunge pool beside the open upstairs terrace.
Fresh fruits, eggs and delicious coffee or local tea is served at breakfast, and finger food is available throughout the day which can be brought directly to your relaxation spot near the garden or rooftop pool!
Our 2 nights at The Colombo Hotel were as relaxing as you’d expect a serene jungle-like atmosphere to be! You couldn’t possibly think you were as close to the maddening mayhem that is Colombo within the confines of the villas! We were provided with the utmost in relaxation, from the numerous dining and snack areas, to comfortable chill zones and an extremely cozy reading nook with purple bean bag chairs; the Colombo Hotel left no detail unattended.
We had the pleasant surprise of staying in ‘The Discoverer’, the beautiful suite which overlooks the upper terrace pool and an ensuite bathroom that is bigger than some hotel rooms! The housekeeper who showed us around our room when we arrived played a relatively funny prank on us when he mentioned there was no bathroom… only to have him open the “what seemed like” cabinet doors which opened up into the awesome cement finished ensuite bathroom. Ceilao Villas also offers complimentary toothbrushes, toothpaste and even a cute sewing kit in case you tear the lining of your bathing suit. The real jewel of the Discoverer, also known as room number 3, are the large windows which open up into the upper pool which you can step through giving direct access to the water. This room really is something and we had a blast photographing the uniqueness of The Colombo Hotel!
Finally, Ceilao Villas, albeit beautiful, wouldn’t be as complete without the extremely friendly and accommodating staff. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel comfortable and at home, from greeting us with their special homemade iced tea, to arranging our transport for departure!
We truly left Ceilao Villas smiling and satisfied, and that’s saying a lot as we went straight to the airport from there as it was the tail end of our Sri Lankan voyage. If you are swinging through Colombo, we definitely recommend you stay at Ceilao Villas. We’re certain you won’t be disappointed as there a ton of funky nooks and crannies for you to discover here!
